Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004. Currently, Facebook has over 900 million active users, more than half of them using Facebook on a mobile device. And you guessed it, I’m one of these users. So that means I’m 1.1111111111111111e-7% of Facebook! Facebook is owned by Facebook Inc. and the company is worth ~$85 billion… well that’s a lot of money for a few servers with some content. Anyway, here is my Facebook account.
Twitter is another social networking service, launched in July 2006. This microblogging service enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as “tweets”. Tweet me @ThomasVanhoutte.
LinkedIn is my favourite social networking website, since it focuses on people’s professional occupations. It was founded before Facebook and Twitter, in May 2003. My LinkedIn profile is not always updated, but that doesn’t mean you are not welcome to connect to me.
Foursquare
foursquare, yes that’s without a capital, is a location-based social networking website. The concept is the following: you check in at venues using your mobile device and each time you do so, earns you points. A user is able to earn badges as well, I currently hold more than 20 badges on foursquare.
Google Plus
Google+ is another social networking website and identity service, owned by Google Inc. It currently has 250 million users and was launched in June 2011. The slogan of Google Plus is “Real-life sharing rethought for the web“. My Google Plus profile.
