I recently updated the BIOS of my Lenovo ThinkPad X1, running Windows 10 Pro x64. Once the update was done and the computer restarted, however, I was greeted with the following screen:
BitLocker recovery
Enter the recovery key for this drive
For more information on how to retrieve this key, go to http://windows.microsoft.com/recoverykey from another PC or mobile device.
Use the number keys or functions key F1-F10 (use F10 for 0).
I thought this was only a one-time procedure I had to do, so I visited the indicated website and retrieved my recovery key.
Unfortunately, on every boot, I was again greeted with this same screen.
The cure is, luckily, quite easy. It consists of suspending and resuming the BitLocker encryption. To do so, first boot into Windows. Then, go to control panel > System and security and choose BitLocker Drive Encryption.
From that screen, click ‘suspend protection’. A warning box will appear ‘Do you want to suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption’? Click Yes.
The last step is to re-enable the encryption; to do so, click on ‘resume protection’.
Thank you
