Comparison of free IMAP e-mail hosting providers

Even though the use of Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, … are all on the rise as communication channels, e-mail is still and will be an important aspect for people and businesses to communicate. In the past, I have used G Suite (back then: Google Apps) and Zoho, but these all became paid. So I was looking for a free e-mail provider alternative to Zoho and G Suite. With this post, I wanted to share my small research with you in case you too want to use a free custom e-mail address.

Requirements for an e-mail provider to make it to my list:

There are many e-mail providers out there. The most commonly known are Google’s G Suite, Microsoft’s Office 365, Zoho, … But in my listed, I only wanted to make sure the provider was offering the service completely free of charge. Here are the other requirements:

  • No advertisements
  • IMAP/POP enabled
  • At least 1GB of e-mail storage included
  • No time limit (it shouldn’t become paid after some time)
  • Ideally: has a web portal / webmail
  • Ideally: has two factor authentication

Here are the list. Ready, set, go!

Migadu – All-Inclusive Email Hosting Email hosting

Migadu is probably the easiest free email provider when you want a custom email address. With Migadu, there are almost no restrictions: no storage limits, domains or mailboxes. To prevent spam or misuse, they do however limit the number of sent e-mails to 10 outgoing per day. Upgrading to their cheap paid tier removes this limit.

Migadu was built to manage multiple email domains with great simplicity and most reasonable pricing. It solved some of our own problems when we were juggling multiple Google Apps accounts at an unjustifiable cost. We hope it does even more for you.
