Change the language of the Google Play Store

Google logoThe Google Play Store, found at https://play.google.com/, displayed the wrong language for me, which it determined using my IP address.

There is no option on the Play Store to switch to another language – which is, in contrary, available on some other Google sites.

My solution was to append &hl=en to the end of the URL. This effectively changed the language to English, but any other language that is supported by the Google Play Store will work as well.

So an URL may look like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox&hl=en

  1. This changes the UI language, and product reviews… but it doesn’t prevent different-language versions of the products to override the English ones.
